Watercolour + Pastel Nest Drawing
Original watercolour & soft pastel drawing by Jo Blaker. A one of a kind.
From a series in an ongoing exploration of the birds nest as a symbol of both strength & vulnerability. This drawing is an ode to the incredible structures created by birds.
Each piece in this series is rich with the interplay of layers of translucent colour. Dropped onto the paper, watercolour paint is then invited to find its own form, through the process of blotting. The results of this unpredictable & hard to control process evoke organic forms imbued with a sense of wild imperfection. Intertwining, structural elements are evoked with a range of marks made using natural materials. Soft chalky eggs nestle within a cup of fine, pastel lines & marks evoking the carefully chosen materials often used to line the centre of a nest - such as hair, grass stems & feathers.
Bold magenta & emerald hues mingle in this piece to create subtler tones & an effect that is quiet whilst also colourful.
