As soon as the weather here in Yorkshire turns autumnal I want to craft & a wet weekend is the perfect opportunity to loose myself in little sewing projects like these acorn brooches. It is my aim for all my products to be biodegradable or recyclable. With this in mind I sought out some new 100% wool felt & stuffing & ah! if the gorgeous colours weren't satisfying enough - this felt feels so beautiful between my fingers whilst I sew! I was very pleased with the results & this step towards sustainability, so as you can imagine it troubled me that I haven't been able to find a natural alternative to the seeds beads. Well, what should I find this week, but a jar of second hand beads! It's not biodegradable of course, but using vintage & second hand beads feels like a good solution indeed - saving plastic from landfill & giving it another life. I've yet to try them out but I'm looking forward to trawling antique stores & second hand stalls for beads I can put to good use!
I'm hoping to run some workshops over the next couple of months, offering you a chance to make your own brooch or tree decoration. I'd love to hear from you if you'd like to register your interest - info@joblaker.com
